The website of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office states that “The government has been clear that settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank are illegal” – yet Britain allows goods produced as part of these illegal colonies to be sold in our high streets, sustaining the settlements and allowing for their further expansion.
We call not only for an individual boycott of settlement products but for a governmental ban on their import. This is the only consistent position the Government can take – not to do so helps further entrench an situation the British government itself describes as illegal.
Settlements and their associated infrastructure of control are the sharp end of the Occupation. The sale of products from these settlement are therefore the clearest example of British shoppers unknowingly funding the brutal oppression of the Palestinians. Campaigns against these goods is therefore a clear priority and is one of the areas where it is easiest to explain how purchasing decision at home can have a profound effect on the lives of Palestinians.
