The RMT transport union has passed a motion condemning Israel at an international conference representing more than 4,600,000 union members.

A French labor union decided to join the international movement to apply Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) on Israel, a statement from the National Work Confederation (Confédération Nationale du Travail - CNT) said Wednesday.

At the TUC conference on September 16th a motion by the Fire Brigade Union, calling for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions and a review of relations with Histradrut was carried by congress. The General Council later made a statement calling for an arms trade boycott, pressure on the government and an end to the EU Israel Trade Agreement.

The movement to boycott Israelis becoming respectable. In Europe and America as well as in the Middle East and many parts of the developing world, people of conscience –

including many Jews - are rejecting anti-Arab prejudice and Zionist mythology and seeing Israel for what it is – an ethnocentric state which deserves to be ostracised.

The international campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel has won several important victories in recent months. At this summer's trade union conferences in Britain, BDS activists have made significant progress.

The Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, has expressed dismay that Israel boycotts are being discussed by trade union congresses and conferences.

Scotland today joined Ireland and South Africa when the Scottish Trade Union Congress, representing every Scottish trade union, voted overwhelmingly to commit to boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel.

Congress today (June 18th) formally launched the report of a senior union delegation visit to Israel and Palestine which recommends support and promotion for a "boycott campaign of Israeli goods and services and a policy of disinvestment from Israeli companies."

UNISON Conference 2008 reafirms call to boycott

At its Biennial Delegate Conference in May 2008 the public sector union IMPACT passed two motions criticising Israeli suppression of the Palestinian people and calling for a boycott of Israeli goods and services.

Two motions were passed at the TSSA (Transport Salaried Staffs Association) concerning Palestine and the boycott of Israel.
